[Clinton] to Campbell. New York. The Inspector General of Provincial Forces having represented the dissatisfaction appearing among the corps of Nova Scotia Volunteers, on account of their being forced to serve on board armed craft, desires a report on the subject. Complains that the rules relative to Provincial Corps have been infringed, particularly by Captain Hayden in enlisting rebel prisoners. They are to be discharged and returned to the Commissary of Prisoners and in future strict attention is to be paid to the rules. Hayden with a detachment is to relived Hierlihy's five companies at St John's, who are to be incorporated with the Nova Scotia Volunteers in Halifax.
