Full Description:
[Clinton] to [Leslie]. New York. Number 12. Since closing his dispatches he has received intelligence that the French are moving from Virginia to the southward. Does not credit such reports but informs that he may be on his guard. It is also said they have been conveying cannon, stores, &c., from the Chesapeake by the inland navigation towards Wilmington [North Carolina]. If there is any truth in these statements, requests to be informed.
