Full Description:
Leslie to Clinton. Charlestown. Encloses some copies of letters that have been passed between [the Continental commander] Greene, Balfour and himself with respect to the execution of Colonel Hayne and the discrimination of prisoners in that district. Discusses needing Clinton's commands as soon as possible, begs to know what plan is to be chosen for the armed 'negroes' to be formed upon, and that due to the sanguinary laws lately passed by the rebel civil government, many of the Loyalists are going over to the enemy. Requests instructions by which the enemy may either be deterred from carrying their law into execution, or by which their friends may be reimbursed for their losses. Thompson is also communicating.
