Full Description:
[William] Franklin to Captain Richard Lippincot[t]. New York. The Board having received information that Captain Clayton Tilton, now confined in close prison in Monmouth County goal, is in great danger of losing his life. To preserve so worthy and active a Loyalist, they have determined on an expedition to save him by forcing the goal, or seizing General Forman or any other active rebel in that county. Is ordered to proceed immediately and take such officers as he may appoint and 30 men, to whom arms, ammunition and provisions will be furnished. On his return he is to report proceedings to the Board.
