Full Description:
[Clinton] to Governor William Franklin. Headquarters. Discussing how Major-General Dalrymple and Mr Elliot had just returned from Elizabethtown [New Jersey] and had reported that Washington's commissioners had formally signified to them that murder had been lately committed in Monmouth by the [Loyalist] refugees from New York on the body of a Captain Huddy. Brigadier General Firman had gone to Washington to complain of the outrage. The Board required that Franklin signify to them his desire for an immediate inquiry to be made and to send a report to them as soon as possible.
