Full Description:
Lieutenant-General Alexander Leslie to James Robertson, General and Commander-In-Chief. Charleston. Has received General Sir Henry Clinton's dispatches of 'the 17, 18 and 19'. The enclosed papers will explain the steps he took after receipt of number 18 letter. He, Leslie, should not have communicated with [the Continental] General Greene about it without orders, but had been strongly induced by the condition of the people. The enemy have started to confiscate the estates of the Loyalists, acts which he had hoped to have stopped by this measure. The state of the army and that of the Americans continue to be the same as when he last wrote.
