Full Description:
Admiral Sir George Brydges Rodney to [Brigadier-General Archibald Campbell]. 'Formidable' at Port Royal. Acknowledges receipt of a letter directed to Sir Peter Parker [following the defeat of the French fleet at the Battle of the Saintes]. Was surprised to find that on his arrival in Jamaica no troops had been sent there from the Americas, as the safety of that island depends upon the strength of the forces there. The enemy has at the Cape, 37 sail of the line and 24,000 troops. The Spaniards seem determined to carry on their expedition and hourly expect assistance from Europe. Desires the matter to be laid before the Command-in-Chief.
