Full Description:
Leslie to Carleton, Charleston. Reports that he is suffering from an illness which causes severe inflamation of his eyes. As a result he is confined to a darkended room and is likely to remain there for some time. Although his doctors are pressing him to return to New York, he will remain at post as long as possible. However, should it become necessary to leave then General De Bose will take command but will leave the day to day running to the senior British officer. This was until last week Major-General Gould, but his health has caused him to sail in the 'Grenville' packet ship for England on the recommendation of his doctor.
