Full Description:
Major-General Edward Mathew, Headquarters, Antigua, to Carleton: writes that the ships that brought the 19th and 30th Regiments with every other transport and supply ship, were according to orders carried by Admiral Pigot, to return to North America but they have been delayed and will leave in a few days. Two of the expected transports are missing having on board six companies of the 19th and 30th Regiments but they appear not to be in any danger. At the request of Major-General O'Hara he [Mathew] has detained Captain Wynard of the 74th but has directed the remaning staff to return as they are not required. The loss of the packet has meant that he is in the dark regarding general events elsewhere. He asks that should Carleton be able to spare some troops they should bring with them as much lumber as possible.
