It is the first compensation or favour she has ever received from the government. Early in the war her house at Westchester was taken possession of by the Continentals and converted into a hospital. Her property in forage, grain and cattle were taken for use of the [American colonial] army, and though an account was sent and payment promised, it has never been received.
