Full Description:
Leslie to Carleton. Charleston. Sends a duplicate of his letter acknowledging dispatch by Major Wemyss. Fears he will require much more shipping than at first stated. Has given permission to the British merchants at Charleston to send a deputation to learn what terms will be granted them from the enemy. Whatever Major-General Greene's answer, it is probable many will desire to remove their property with the troops. Will appoint officers to superintend the transport of 'negroes', proposes a corps of pioneers, and has not sufficient provisions. Some civil officers and others desire to go to England if a proper convoy can be granted.
