Full Description:
Leslie to Carleton. Charleston. The Loyalists, whose property has been confiscated by acts of the Rebel Assembly seem to expect some compensation for their losses from the sequestration fund. Mr Cruden has a balance due to him of £10,000 and he requests this may be paid from a proportional sale of 'negroes'. Desires orders respecting this claim and the expectation of the Loyalists. Is again in a dark room and very weak. Proposes sending the Florida Rangers with the refugees to St Augustine unless contrary orders arrive before the evacuation. Has now part of the artillery embarked.
