Full Description:
[Carleton] to Richard Burke. New York. Number 4. Received letter of 19 April enclosing the memorial of Mr Charles Cooke, praying payment for flour, 'said to be his property taken in a rebel magazine in 1777'. The memorial appears to have been decided by Sir Henry Clinton and he cannot think Mr Cooke entitled to payment for any rebel magazine siezed by the troops, whatever merits he may have as a loyal subject.
