Full Description:
Samuel Hake. City and Province of New York. Disposition of Gilbert R. Livingston, Captain in the American Legion. That he is well acquianted with Hake who in 1778, under cover of a flag of truce, brought a quantity of valuable goods into Red Hook and sold them to one Jacob Thomas who was threatened and terrorised into confession. The goods were seized and confiscated. Hake was told the property would be restored if he would take the oath of allegiance to the States, which he positively refused to do. Note of Messrs, Jacob Thomas and Hugh McAdams, 3 December 1778, for £10,669 7s.
