Full Description:
William Wanton to Major George Beckwith. 47 Smith Street. Regarding the Rhode Island records the information from Mr Chaloner is that he took possession of them by order of General Piggot, and that Town Major Barry, the day before leaving Newport, gave him an order to send them to his house. This he did and they came 'to this place' in the ship with General Prescscot's luggage and were lodged with Mr Thurston who recently died. The chest contained nothing relative to the 'doings of the Government'. As yet cannot find where Mr Thurston left them, perhaps at a Mr Rapaljee Newton's where he lived for some time. 'If of any use he has in his possession the Laws of the Colony with their Acts driving the Governor from his govenment'.
