Full Description:
Port au Prince. Secret intelligence. Reports on the number and condition of the French and Spanish troops. Warns of action by the Spanish and Americans against Bermuda. The Americans complain of interruption of their trade and say they have suffered more this year from English cruisers than during the whole of the war. They are particularly exasperated with the"Bermudians". Asks why there are not more ships kept to cruising windward of Cape Francois. Says there are only two French vessels and one Spanish besides three or four frigates and that six ships of the line could destroy 500 vessels lying there, the fortifications are trifling and at Port au Prince there are no warships. There is much talk of the ensuing campaign. General Galvez has nothing yet from Europe.
