Full Description:
Daniel Van Mater to Carleton. Bruklen. Memorial. Recounts his losses as a result of his loyalty to the King; that wishing to employ his time and earn his bread he rented a house in Bruklen [Brooklyn] at £180 per annum three rooms of which are, since taking on the house, used as a guard house, an office and living accommodation by the deputy barrack master. Prays for rent to be paid for the rooms used by the government. Endorsement that the room occupied as a guard house to be paid for at £25 per annum from May 1 1780; the billet is a necessary burden in common with all inhabitants.
