Full Description:
Carleton to [Robert Morris]. New York. Acknowledges receipt of his letter dated Aug 20 enclosing letters from the masters of two flagships from England. Notes that his intention is to deliver to one of the masters such British marine prisoners as may be in Philadelphia or its vicinty provided the masters' receipt be deemed proper evidence of the delivery on a settlement of the account hereafter. Confirms that the receipt of either of the masters will be deemed sufficient proof. Hopes that [Morris] will enlarge the area from which the British are to be collected in order their number may be in the same proportion to those transmitted from England. He has been informed by the Naval Commissary that there are numbers at present held in [New] Jersey.
