Full Description:
Thomas Townshend to Carleton. Whitehall. Is obliged by the great importance of the service committed to Carleton and the anxiety of the King and his ministers for progress reports, to press in the most urgent manner that he [Carleton] settle with the Admiral [George Rodney] the means of conveying more frequent reports. Also refers to the French fleet on their way to Boston and the possible effect thereof on the safety of the troops destined for Halifax and the evacuation of New York.
