[Carleton] to [Haldimand]. New York. Sends certain news papers which may give information of earlier events and changes in England than Haldimand may have been able to obtain. Says that General Patterson commanding at Halifax has instructions to give all assistance in his power should it be required. Says that the situation in New York is unquiet, Washington's forces are strong and are threatening New York though whether with the intention of attacking is uncertain. Asks that the King's Rangers under Colonel Rogers in Canada be taken under Haldimand's direction and placed on the same footing as the other troops serving in Canada.
