Full Description:
[Carleton] to Major-General Patterson. New York. Has decided not to withdraw any of the troops actually in Nova Scotia but that the reinforcements of the year should remain under Patterson's command; orders him to take the necessary steps for their distribution and accommodation and for the defence of the province in particular Halifax and Penobscot. Directs that should Haldimand should call upon assistance, the commander is to provide whatever troops and stores he can properly spare. Has given directions to the Commissary-General to have almost all the provisions and stores landed at Halifax so as to allow the ships to go to Charleston without delay.
