Full Description:
Brigadier John Campbell to Carleton. Halifax. Is exceedingly unfortunate if any part of his conduct has caused Carleton to send Major-General Paterson to supercede him in command of the district, and that if any complaint has been lodged against him he will be given a copy so that he may vindicate himself. Is now ordered to Penobscot and will put the defences in the best state he can with the few troops there. On the arrival of the Brunswick recruits at Penobscot the garrison strength will be about 650 and suggests that it be increased to 1,000 or 1,200 to make a proper defence in case of attack; will have some more works constructed.
