Full Description:
Carleton to Sir Andrew Snape Hammond. New York. Encloses lists of the refugees desirous of emigrating to Nova Scotia and of taking up such grants of land as it is possible for him to make which they reasonably expect will be done without payment of any fees or other monetary obligations. Recommends Messrs. Amos, Botsford, Cummins and Hauser agents for the Loyalists. Desires that they be given every necessary assistance in finding suitable places for settlements; that they expect to be provided with tracts of unappropriated land of 500 or 600 acres per family and 300 acres per single man; land must also be made available for the use of the church and for schools. Says he intends, so far as he is able, to provide the refugees going this autumn with all they need for their support through the winter and asks that they be given such aid and support as can only be provided locally.
