Full Description:
Major Frederick MacKenzie. It does not appear by the Treaty that any mention is made of the officers of the Hessian Hospital or their pay, and Dr Nooth informs him that it was understood by both parties at the time of making the treaty that the Landgrave was to be at the entire expense of medicines and attendants. That after some time it was found expedient to allow the hospitals to be furnished from the British stores but the Landgrave continued to pay the physician, surgeon and apothecary. In the abstract of pay for the Hessian troops, one physician and one surgeon-general are specified at 10s per day and put down as belonging to the general staff.
