Major-General De Riedesel to Carleton. Isle Aux Noix. Recommending Lieutenant Beckwith of the 37th who wishes to distinguish himself and has applied to return to New York and join his regiment. The Duke of Brunswick is particularly attached to the lieutenant's father. Report that the 'Astrea' frigate is in the river with the Brunswick Officers of [the Army of the Saratoga] Convention. Sends duplicate of a letter written on the subject of the last transport of recruits, clothing and camp equipage which arrived at Halifax and was sent by order of Campbell to Penobscot. This deprives troops of winter clothing which if it is taken or lost will be unable to take the field next spring.
