Full Description:
Alexander Innes to Carleton. New York. The Inspector-General of Provincial Forces' report respecting the Guides and Pioneers. States that the corps, formed by order of Sir William Howe, were attached to the Quartermaster-General's Department and paid by him until 24 December 1777 after which the detachment that accompanied Howe to Pennsylvania was ordered to be paid by the Paymaster of Provincial Forces from 25 December 1777 and those left in this district from 25 April 1778. The rate of pay was fixed by the Quartermaster-General with no charge for provisions. Sends copy of the first abstract certified by Sir William Erskine (Quartermaster-General).
