Full Description:
W.B., a friend, to Carleton. New York. A proposition for peace. Suggests, inter alia, that no offers or terms be proposed to Congress as they are governed by the French; Parliament repeal every act binding on the colonies and give one general and generous grant somewhat similar to that of Ireland, independent of Parliament and irrevocable, the King's supremacy to remain over America as it is in Great Britain; show such goodwill to the American people as will convince them to 'escape the snare laid by the artful designs of the French and their dupes (the Congress)'. Says that the voice of the present rulers in America is not that of the people. Expresses his opinion that such a procedure [as outlined] would have the desired effect but 'something real must be done to support the people at large by removing every jealous ides from their breast'.
