Full Description:
Comte de Rochambeau to Sir Guy Carleton. At Camp. When Admiral Pigot has sent back the servants belonging to the officers of the French army that were on board the 'Eagle', a mistake has been made by the secretary of the Baron de Viomenil who made the return. Those whom he [Rochambeau] claims belong to the Marquis de Laval and to the Prince de Broglio; the first was happy last year after the siege of York to lend £1500 to Earl Cornwallis; the second is a son of a marshall of France whose reputation is well known. He writes to Carleton in the hope that this observation will end this affair.
Enclosing list mentioned in the above letter. For the Marquis de Laval a coureur (sic) chef de cuisine, aide de cuisine, charge de l'office and piqueur; for the Prince de Broglie, chef de cuisine; for M. de Bretano, palefrenier.
