Sir Guy Carleton to General Haldimand. Had no purpose to pass into Canada. The French troops have marched forwards possibly to winter in the Eastern Provinces, but all eventualities must be guarded for. Separate letter unsigned and undated, states that Colonel Carleton arrived the 27 October; there is no vacancy for him here, he means to go to England or return to Canada in Spring.
