Full Description:
[Carleton] to General [Archibald] Campbell. New York. Number 4. Received previous letter. Discussion with regard to dispatching out orders to send officers and men to Jamaica, and delaying the sending of detachments to the Spanish Main. Requests that Campbell send the 82nd, 84th and others northward. 'Such few of the 79th Regiment as arrived from the Havana, and were found fit for service have been drafted into the 54th, as there was no opportunity of sending them to Jamaica'.
