Leslie to Carleton. Charleston. Number 13. Discussion on how they will be ready for embarkation from about a fortnight from this date and the positioning of battalions. News of the sailing of the fleet for Halifax on 21 October and the arrival of the last division of the fleet from St Johns (the other from St Augustine). There is no material change with regard to the situation with the enemy, and the treaty with Governor Mathews about the 'negroes' has been discontinued. Postscript, notifying that the enemy have advanced about 70 men with design to 'insult' [assault] a post which had been established at Fort Johnston on James Island to cover the approaches to the town, they have repulsed with some loss of men and officers.
