Full Description:
Leslie to Carleton. Charleston. Private. Discussion with regard to the intentions of the Loyalists in returning 'negroes' to their owners. Leslie reports that he has done his best to return them to the Rebels but his actions are abortive because of the behaviour of General Greene. Further mention is made of complaints of the scarcity of rations for the 'negroes' being taken from Philadelphia to Florida and Jamaica. Listed what was available. Has fears with regard to the provisions for the slaves. Lastly mentions that desertions continue even after examples have been taken on the gibbet.
