[Carleton] to Townshend. New York. Number 46. Finds that the number of troops destined for the relief of Jamaica falls short of what he expected due to death and desertion. Transmits copies of letters, an embarkation return, and a distribution of transports for the evacuation of Charleston. General Leslie mentions expectation of being at sea by 1 December, but [Carleton] is inclined to think that due to the weather, the ships destined for New York may be forced to bear away for the West Indies.
