[Carleton] to Townshend. New York. With regard to Mr Depeyster from New Jersey. [Carleton] knows of him but is unacquainted with his merits. He is well spoken of by 'General R. and the A. G'. so he gave him £200 sterling as a suffering refugee. He recommended that he should apply to the General Officers at home who are better able to state his pretensions. As he is now become dependent on the government, he recommends him to Townshend's notice.
