Full Description:
Thomas Townshend to Carleton. Whitehall. Has received several dispatches and laid them before the king. Discussion with regard to his determination to decline any command and permission to return to England. The detachment from Charleston to reinforce the garrison at Jamaica, and the 1,500 troops to go to the island of Barbados. Inspection of the general return, and the sending of heavy artillery, mortars and stores to the West Indies. Admiral Digby to provide adequate transport for the expedition, and the necessary preperations respecting the orders of the 14 August. Noted on the reverse of the document that it was received by the 'Swallow' packet, 1 June 1783.
