Full Description:
Thomas Murray, aidd-de-camp. Answer to Mr Smith's application- General Robinson desires me to say. The Commander-in-Chief, that he might be able to ascertain the extent and judge of the propriety of the government's bounty, having directed that the whole should be given in money. If Mr Smith judges the sum granted to him too small he should apply to have it increased. It is presumed to return to the mode of giving a variety of charities from different offices would be destructive of 'the principles of the principles established so much to the benefit of the publick'. Signed as a true copy by the Deputy Adjutant-General Frederick MacKenzie, 9 June 1783.
