Full Description:
Carleton to Thomas Townshend. New York. Draft letter. Lacking satisfactory information about the military state and defences of the Bermudas has sent Lieutenant Slack, Corps of Engineers, to report thereon and also on the number and condition of the militia; on receiving report will take all necessary steps to secure the islands from attack. In then meantime has sent a company of the Garrison Battalion as reinforcement together with arms and ammunition for the militia.
