Full Description:
[Carleton] to Governor Archibald Campbell. New York. Number 5. Captain Dixon has received a dispatch enclosing extracts from Spanish letters taken in the vessel from Cadiz. Cannot send assistance to Jamaica at present but as he has reason to believe all the forces in the West Indies will soon be employed for its protection, has no doubt that he will be enabled to make an advantageous defence. The reinforcements from Charleston could not sail until the 18 December, hopes they have long since arrived. Forwards certificate of the Deputy-Adjutant-General stating that the troops under Brigadier-General Stewart did not receive the usual bounty of forage money previous to their leaving America.
