Ensign Richard Boyle, 1st Battalion of De Lancey's Brigade, to Carleton. New York. Memorial. Came as a volunteer to America in 1777 expecting to meet with friends in the army but being disappointed accepted an ensign's commission for which he was obliged to enlist 12 effective men at his own expense; has been at the sieges of Savannah and York, Virginia, and at the defeat of Colonel Ferguson at Kings Mountain (North Carolina) and lost his baggage each time. The injury done by reducing him from lieutenant to ensign after serving two years in the former rank; is of the opinion that he is entitled to lieutenant's rank from 19 March 1780; asks for redress.
