Lieutenant-Colonel Thomas Brown, St Augustine to Sir Guy Carleton. Letter via the 'Belisarius', on the state of Indian affairs and asks for advice. The Cherokees and deputies from the Northern tribes have returned and are satisfied. As the visit was expensive expresses hopes that it will do some good. Forwards accounts and vouchers for payment. Intelligence reports indicate that the Spaniards have abandoned Mobile. Also, that the Pensacola garrison is reduced by sickness and desertion to just 300 men from Jamaica with assistance from the Indians. Adds, that pride and desire to establish a military reputation has induced Don Galvez to risk everything for the conquest of West Florida. He speculates that the British might win back the region with 600 troops. Mentions that the area's inhabitants are mainly French settlers adding that they have suffered the cruelties of Governor Alexander [Alejandro] O'Reilly [of Spanish Louisiana].
