Full Description:
[New York Board of Police] to Lieutenant-General Robertson. New York. In consequence of the general orders of 18 February 1783 a number of memorials have been sent into the police from persons without the lines as also from residents in this city, some of which are claiming rents from the time that New York was taken possession of by the Kings' troops to the day the memorialists got possession of their property by order. Others are claiming rents from the same period of time to this day as some of their property is still in the possession of the government for public use. As the determination was made at a meeting called by Sir Henry Clinton touching claims for back rents, they request to be informed what orders Clinton gave thereon so as to comply with orders and to make their report.
