Full Description:
Cadwallader Colden to Carleton. New York. Hearing that His Excellency may at any time give up the chief command, begs to suggest a method whereby his difficulties as a distressed Loyalist may be lessened. That is of having a year's pay in advance to enable him to pay some debts and to remove his family to his former place of residence, if he may go there. Reminds him he is the son of an old, faithful servant of the crown and though he acknowledges the generous allowance he has had the two years past, he has lived in the greatest economy. He has spent all that could come out of his own property and his estate is stripped of everything for fines and taxes. Endorsed by a warrant for £100 sterling, issued 8 April 1783 by order of Frederick MacKenzie.
