James De Lancey of Westchester County to Carleton. New York. Memorial. Representing his attachment to his Sovereign and the British Constitution and the services rendered (without pay or clothing) by the militia and loyal refugees in the county commanded by him since 1777. Finds that some people are endeavouring to prejudice him in Carleton's opinion by underhandedly collecting depositions of every irregularity committed in the county and indiscriminately attributing these to the refugees under his command. Finds himself compelled to ask permission to resign command. Of necessity requests an allowance adequate for his support.
