Full Description:
Major Alexander MacLean to Carleton. New York. Memorial. Was a subaltern in the 114th Regiment and reduced to half-pay in 1763; came to America and was happily settled in South Carolina. At the start of the rebellion he was chiefly instrumental in raising 1,500 men for the government as a result of which his property was forfeited and his family reduced to real want. Was recommended by the King's ministers for his services, notwithstanding these and the recommendations, he is still unprovided for except for the allowance of 7s 6d a day, together with the temporary rank of Major, conferred by General Howe before any recommendions from England. Asks for an appointment to a vacant company in one of the established Provincial Corps or some other provision to help him maintain his family and take himself and them to some other country
