Full Description:
Carleton to Thomas Townshend. New York. Two letters. First encloses four memorials: first from the New York Volunteers; second from the seconded Provincial officers; third from the officers captured at York Town, who remain with the prisoners at Lancaster; fourth from Colonel Morris. He strongly recommends the first two memorials; says that in his judgment, the third is deserving of attention and favour; and the fourth whose former rank, late situation here and personal merits will procure him much regard. Second letter informs that the artillery and stores previously ordered by Townshend to be sent to the West Indies are embarked and ready to sail. About four or five thousand refugees who are going to Nova Scotia will embark tomorrow and sail in a few days for Port Rosway and St. John's River; probably many more will follow. Many more ships will be required to accomplish the evacuation of New York during the summer as Admiral Digby will more particularly inform him
