His original commission dated 13 April 1778 from Sir William Stowe having been lost and enquiry made of the War Office, it appears that no such commission was ever notified. Morris being ordered on immediate service to Halifax asks that Carleton grant him a commission to prevent any problems arising from the loss of the original commission.
