Full Description:
Lieutenant-General Roberstson, Governor of the Province of New York, to Andrew Elliot, Lieutenant-Governor. New York. As military law has prevailed here, he has exercised few acts as a civil governor, all authority having been derived from the Commander-in-Chief. On his (Robertson) leaving the country this military authority is transferred to other generals. Little will be left to help him (Elliot) in preserving order but the name of Governor, his own private character and the people's regard for his person. Leaves him the Great Seal and all instructions that he may continue to execute the duty of the Prerogative Court.
