Full Description:
[Carleton] to William Deane Poyntz, Deputy Paymaster-General. New York. Major Gordon has authority to issue warrants on the Assistant Deputy Paymaster-General at Lancaster [Pennsylvania] or allowances granted to the officers who have remained to take care of the prisoners in captivity. Should the military chest prove insufficient, the Major is to order the Assistant Deputy Paymaster to draw on Poyntz for whatever sums may be requisite.
