Full Description:
(Carleton), New York to Governor William Browne, Bermuda. Regarding Thomas Poole, during the current excited climate and strength of public opinion against such people as Poole, I wish him returned to Bermuda and kept there, but not in close confinement, until he can return safely. As he is not formally a prisoner-of-war the cessation of hostilities does not affect him and I therefore wish him to remain with you until the heat has cooled.
