Brigadier-General Archibald McArthur, St Augustine to Carleton. Seeks guidance on behalf of garrison officers as to their fate following the British withdrawal. They are anxious to learn what gratuities are forthcoming; for example in Nova Scotia although they fear the climate there. The civilians fear Spanish cruelty greatly and many wish just to leave. Their fears are boosted by unofficial news from England.
